Online Event to Revitalize America’s Civic Future
YLI would like to let you know about a FREE event taking place on January 17th that you and/or your students might participate in. The Dreyfuss Initiative is sponsoring an event titled, "Time For a Talk-The National Conversation on Revitalizing America’s Civic Future."
The Dreyfuss Initiative was founded in 2003 by actor Richard Dreyfuss and his belief that civic education is the founding mandate of public education. Free public schools were developed in America for the express purpose of raising up good citizenship. This purpose has been abandoned and must be regained. Thus the mission of the Initiative is to create a demand for a more expert learning experience and to give our kids the splendid pleasure of learning what power they have. The Dreyfuss Initiative is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to restoring America’s civil discourse. As Mr. Dreyfuss has said the mission of the Initiative is,
"To teach our kids to run our country before they are called upon to run our country…if we don’t someone else will run it."
This national discussion will take place on January 17th beginning at 1pm (EST) and 10am (PST). Interested educators can register to participate in the online event. Panelists include:
- Richard Dreyfuss, American Activist and Academy Award Winning Actor
- Stephen Zack, President, American Bar Association
- Charles Saylors, President, National PTA
- Dr. Stuart Grauer, President/Head of School, The Grauer Foundation for Education
- Bruce Hunt, Executive Director, San Diego Rotary
If you live in the Washington, DC or San Diego area and would like to attend the event in person please visit the Time for a Talk website. Seating is limited so act quickly.
YLI is proud to make this event available to its fifty-thousand educators who are working every day to make our democracy stronger. Get in the game by joining the National Discussion on Revitalizing America’s Civic Future.
