Running Start was founded in 2007 and supports young women running for federal office. Running Start was formed when it became clear that the pool of young women considering careers in politics and running for elected office was far too small. Running Start is committed to the idea that young women need to be educated about politics earlier in life if the make-up of our political leaders in our country is to transform. Only by planting the seed of interest in politics will our nation’s women run earlier, climb higher through leadership, and share more in the decision making power of our nation.
Two Running Start alumni have started a “Race to the Capitol” contest for high school girls interested in leadership and politics. The contest runs from January 1-March 15, 2011. Your students may enter by submitting an application and a thirty-second video explaining why they want to be President of the United States.
